# ✅ Trending/News API - Implementation Complete

## Status: LIVE AND WORKING

### 🎯 What Was Accomplished

1. **Fixed Regex Error in TrendingService**
   - Issue: PCRE2 regex pattern was using invalid escape sequences (`\u0600-\u06FF`)
   - Solution: Simplified regex to just `/#([a-zA-Z0-9_]+)/u` pattern
   - Result: ✅ Hashtag extraction now working correctly

2. **Created Public Trending API Endpoints**
   - Routes added to `/routes/api/public.php`
   - Implemented in `PublicExploreController`
   - Available at `/api/public/explore/trending/*` (public, no authentication required)

3. **TrendingService Features**
   - ✅ Extracts hashtags from posts
   - ✅ Ranks posts by engagement score (comments + bookmarks + views + quotes)
   - ✅ Falls back 24h → 7 days → 30 days if no data
   - ✅ Caches results for 60-120 seconds
   - ✅ Extracts trending users (most popular authors)

## 📊 Data Sources

1. **Posts**: Filtered by status = 'active', last 24+ hours
2. **Hashtags**: Extracted via regex from post content
3. **Ranking**: By engagement = comments + bookmarks + views + quotes
4. **Users**: By followers_count and publications_count

---

## 🔄 Cache Strategy

- Topics cache: 120 seconds (trending_topics_24h_v1)
- Posts cache: 60 seconds (trending_posts_24h_v1)
- Fallback windows: 24h → 7d → 30d if limited data
- Clear by: `php artisan cache:clear`
